A number of people are heading to Stockenträffen which is Sweden's biggest sea kayaking meet. It is held over the August bank holiday (28/29 August) in Stocken on the island of Orust, which is about 20 Km north of Gothenborg and esaily accessable by bus from Gothenborg. The waters are easily navigatable by novices and the tidal range is less than a meter. Accomodation is either in a nearby youth hostel, huts or camping.

You can rent kayaks at the camp site for £80 for the 2 days (PDF, spray deck and paddle included). You can, if you want pay, for coaching sessions with the world renound kayaking coach Nigel Foster. There is also a lecture event on the Friday and a meal on the Saturday, although these are likley to be in Swedish, they are well worth attending for the people you will meet.
