The organiser just emailed me. In case anyone is interested here is his message:
I understand that your club is may not
be a specific slalom club, but don’t stop reading yet!!! You don’t need
any specialist equipment to join in (you might struggle with a sprint
or open boat, but you’re welcome to give it a try! Give me a shout if
you need any kit, we have quite a bit!)
In a couple of weeks
time (26/27 July) St Albans canoe club are running an entry level
slalom event at Harefield on the grand union canal by coppermill lock.
There is a race on each day and although i would prefer entries to be
made in advance, we will be accepting entries on the day... We will
also have a few Canadian boats (C1 and C2) if anyone fancies having a
go at something different!
The site is ideal to give any of
your paddlers an introduction to slalom. The course has a couple of
sluices to challenge the better paddlers but is by no means scary
enough to put off the less experienced competitors.
There are a
few pictures, course description and directions available on the canoe
slalom website at: http://www.canoeslalom.co.uk/courses/harefield.htm
The
main part of the course will be erected on the Wednesday prior to the
race if you fancy a bit of practice. I am also available at any time
weekdays from 14 July if anyone would like any slalom coaching or would
like to organise a group of paddlers. Depending on numbers we may be
able to offer some coaching over the weekend.
We’re fortunate enough to have a pub and camping on site, so what more can you ask for!
I have enclosed a poster that I would be grateful if you could display in your clubhouse and/or distribute to your members.
Please give me a shout if you need to know any more information.
I hope to see you there!
Thanks
Nicky Cresser
